2021 Spiritual Theme — FEARLESS
“When I am afraid, I put my trust in you.
In God, whose word I praise—
in God I trust and am not afraid.
What can mere mortals do to me?” -Psalm 56:3-4
Whether it’s fear of the dark, fear of trying something new, or fear of losing something or someone dearly loved, we have all experienced fear—especially this past year! But these kinds of fears are not something God intended for his children to experience. In fact, the first time anyone experienced this kind of fear was just after sin entered the world when Adam and Eve ate the fruit God had commanded them not to eat. We see Adam in the Garden of Eden express feeling afraid in Genesis 3:10 when he says, “I heard you in the garden, and I was afraid … so I hid.” Since then there have been innumerable reasons for every one of us to feel afraid.
Even so, God doesn’t leave us alone in our fears, or even simply stop at telling us not to fear. He tells us what we CAN do instead. Psalm 56:3-4 says, “When I am afraid, I put my trust in you. In God, whose word I praise—in God I trust and am not afraid. What can mere mortals do to me?” When we feel afraid, God wants us to trust him for help. He wants us to look to his word, the Bible, to see that he is able to carry us through whatever scary thing we may face.
At camp this year campers and staff will explore — through Bible study, campfire messages, and songs — how trusting Jesus Christ as our savior enables us to respond to fear in a Biblical way.
Girls Camp Week 1, June 13-19: Gold Rush
Thar be gold in yon’ hills–or something worth exploring. Could be a skunk, but you never know at NeKaMo! So get ready to hitch up your wagon, pack your pickaxe, and don your overalls (fake beards optional).
Girls Camp Week 2, June 20-26: Journey Through the Pages
Untold adventures await on every dusty page and inside each leather cover. No bookmarks needed because this experience will be a book you can’t put down! Instead of a cozy chair and a fireplace, though, we’ll substitute tree stumps and campfires, of course.
