Reflecting on 2017

During our 2017 camp season we had 180 campers altogether and graduated 7 C.I.L.T.s–our biggest graduating class in recent memory! The theme was “Quest” based on Hebrews 12:1-2, “Therefore, since we are   surrounded by such a great   cloud of witnesses, let us   throw off everything that   hinders and the sin that so   easily entangles. And let us   run with perseverance the   race marked out for us, fixing our eyes on Jesus, the pioneer and perfecter of faith. For the  joy set before him he endured  the cross, scorning its shame,  and sat down at the right hand of the throne of God.”

One of the best parts about being at camp is that, for a time, we are indeed surrounded by “a great cloud of witnesses.” Many of our staff said their biggest blessing at camp was “meeting women of faith” and “being around other Christians.”

The campers, too, said they loved “reconnecting with old friends,” “bonding with cabin mates,” and “making new friends in different age ranges.”

In everything we do at camp our aim is to “fix our eyes on Jesus.” We love to see God’s hand in the midst of all the singing, activities, and fun that take place at camp. This summer the girls loved swimming, fishing, star gazing, and much more. Of course we also take plenty of intentional time to “fix our eyes on Jesus” through His word. One staff member said she loved “seeing my girls learn about God and thinking so deeply about the Bible and what its words mean.” Campers likewise said they loved “getting to learn more about God” and  “growing closer to God.” Through studying God’s word campers said they learned “God is kind,” “he is my king and my father and he wants people to follow in his steps,” “God is the only thing that will fully satisfy you forever,” and “he wants a relationship with me still even when I mess up.”

As we continue to “run the race marked out” for our camp, we have been especially grateful to see the Lord’s faithfulness carry on from one generation to the next. One staff member noted that her greatest blessing is “being able to come to this camp and teach girls the gospel just like I learned at this camp.”

While campers sang and s’mored, the Lord continued to prove himself faithful through a successful visit from the American Camp Association accreditation team. We passed our re-accreditation with flying colors and get to maintain our status as an ACA accredited camp for another 5 years!

After camp this summer, one parent expressed her thoughts about camp this way: “THANK YOU to all leaders, staff, etc. NeKaMo is a real blessing-pivotal in our daughter’s journey.”

We, too, would like to thank each and every one of you for the part you play in NeKaMo Camp. Whether by your prayers, your attendance, your service, or simply your word-of-mouth you all play a part in influencing girls’ journeys toward or with Christ.
