“Therefore, since we are surrounded by such a great cloud of witnesses, let us throw off everything that hinders and the sin that so easily entangles. And let us run with perseverance the race marked out for us, fixing our eyes on Jesus, the pioneer and perfecter of faith. For the joy set before him he endured the cross, scorning its shame, and sat down at the right hand of the throne of God.” -Hebrews12:1-2
The most epic stories often involve a quest. The hero of such stories faces countless trials, dangers, and enemies on the way to accomplishing her task or reaching a sought-after destination.
The Christian life is no different! How do we navigate the quest of the Christian life and endure until we too have accomplished the task set before us? Fortunately, as Christians, we are not on this quest alone! We are surrounded by others who have walked this road before us, as well as many who are walking beside us. Camp is a great place to walk together and build up strength for this quest.
Not only do we have each other, better yet, we know a champion who has done this before! Jesus had a quest of his own that included all of the classic trials and temptations that we could face. He endured till the end and finished his quest by fixing his eyes on his father. Looking to Jesus is the only way that we too will finish our quest and get to sit down and rejoice with him once it’s done.
